ABOUT AVERY COHEN

Our beautiful son Avery, forever 8, passed away earlier this year from leukemia. Throughout his nine months battling this illness, his love for sports never wavered, and oftentimes provided him with a source of engagement and happiness that was a true bright spot in his otherwise challenging day-to-day.

Nowhere was this commitment to all things sports more apparent than in his love for hockey and the RCCS tournament. From attending a special pre-tournament practice for Team Bravery and being made honorary captain, to streaming the competition live while in the hospital undergoing treatment, to broadcasting messages of hope and endurance to the RCCS community of players, Avery was the most enthusiastic and dedicated fan imaginable. He adored watching his dad Sam play and, always a competitive kid, followed the tournament closely.

We can think of no better way to honor Avery's memory than to dedicate this annual event in our son's brave, endearing, and strong spirit that continues to cast its light on all of us every day, and in deep gratitude for all of the support that RCCS has provided our family throughout this journey.

ABOUT YAAKOV YISROEL TOPPER

Our son Yaakov Yisroel was tragically taken from us a few years ago.

While the pain and heartbreak are still with us on a daily basis, we try to focus on the special person that he was. Our son had a caring heart and loved to give and connect with others.

Additionally, he was an avid hockey player, and while he was on the ice, it seemed as if he was reborn and that all his pain and torment miraculously dissipated.

As the shock of his passing still reverberates inside each of us, we have tried to find a way to perpetuate Yaakov Yisroel's legacy and show the world the beauty of who he truly was. We wanted to connect people to the special soul that he possessed and experience the great person that we all cared for and loved.

We could think of no better way to honor our son's life than to dedicate this tournament in his memory. An organization with a wonderful heart, helping people through hockey, this event is the true embodiment of Yaakov Yisroel.
