If one was asked to define Dr. Richard Friedman in one word, chessed would probably be the immediate reply. While it is true that as a physician the opportunity to help others was part of his daily routine, Dr. Friedman always went the extra mile. In addition to his career as a surgeon running a busy practice, Dr. Friedman founded the Heritage Program at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, supporting the care and comfort of all the hospital’s Jewish patients. Dr. Friedman served as the Medical Director of Hatzalah, volunteering his time and expertise to help the organization save lives across every neighborhood in the New York area. Often, in his limited personal time, he would travel to the homes of his patients to be sure that they were healing properly and doing well. Dr. Richie, as he was lovingly known by so many, truly left a trail of kindness wherever he went. Richie was led by his heart and his commitment to HKBH.
To perpetuate his memory, Dr. Friedman’s family and close friends are writing a Sefer Torah L’Zecher Nishmas R’ Tzvi Nachum ben Yitzchak Chaim 'שת. This project will serve as a most fitting legacy for a man who accomplished great things in this world and continues to protect K’lal Yisroel in the Olam Ha’Emes.
The Sefer Torah will be dedicated on Richie’s first Yahrtzeit, Erev Chanukah, and will be escorted to its home in Khal Chassidim of Lawrence (R’ Sender Gluck), the shul from which Richie was returning at the time of his petirah. Please join us in support of this project and in remembering the legacy of this Ish Chessed, and may he continue to be a Meilitz Yosher on behalf of K’lal Yisroel. Yehi Zichro Baruch.
This song was written by Yosef Shlomo Friedman for his father.
