When a child confronts serious illness or loss in their family, and their parents can’t be home for them during those crucial afterschool hours, i-Shine is there.
i-Shine, a community-based project of Chai Lifeline West Coast, provides afterschool mentoring, homework help, friendship and fun in a supervised and supportive environment. , i-Shine creates an oasis of support where children receive the attention, camaraderie, and friendships they need to thrive. Assistance with homework, dinner, sports, arts and crafts, music, and a full range of recreational activities give children a respite from the constant stress of living with illness or loss and create a community of support for children going through similar experiences. i-Shine’s incredible team of dedicated, enthusiastic high school and adult volunteers showers each child with attention and encouragement. Together they create a positive, happy environment filled with mentorship, camaraderie and fun and give parents a much-needed break.
