About Sparks of Life

Sparks of Life exists to educate, empower, and inspire the Jewish PD community. We offer movement therapies, medical advocacy, motivational and emotional support for people with Parkinson's and their caregivers.

Sparks of Life is on a mission to change the face of Parkinson's Disease in the Jewish community. Our goal is to inspire and motivate every person with PD to take action to improve their quality of life - to feel better and live better. It's time to put Parkinson's in its place!

SPARKStudio, the first and only Jewish Center for Parkinson's in the USA, opened its doors in winter 2018. An innovative research-based exercise program, it is designed to improve physical and neurological well-being and fight the progressive symptoms of PD. Currently, 13 classes are offered every week in Dance, GyroKinetics, OsteoStretch, Rock Steady Boxing, and Voice & Music.

Thanks to the generous support of last year's run, SPARKStudio moved into its present home in Pomona where it shares space with Coach Yuri of Power Mixed Martial Arts. Susan Lust, Managing Director and Dance Therapist, offers group classes and private training in GyroKinetics and Dance, and the Rock Steady Boxing program is thriving under Coach Yuri's expert instruction. An extremely motivating, energizing atmosphere coupled with intense physical training has created positive change in members who are pushing past their limitations and winning back their active lives.

Your assistance will enable us to sustain and expand our programming in support of the Jewish PD community in Rockland, Westchester, Orange and Bergen Counties. Future goals include a full gym, expanded class schedule, on-site physical and speech therapies, ongoing motivational lectures, nutritional education, and a host of other supportive programs including weekend retreats for members and caregivers.

Forced exercise has been shown through research to slow down PD progression. Our trained experts help our members go beyond their limitations. We're all about movement and exercise. So, go ahead, run, move and push to your limits and beyond!

Power up for Parkinson's 5k and 1 Mile run is set to take place on Sunday October 18, 2020, around the scenic Rockland Lake. We welcome the families of all our runners to join us for a fun-filled event with a carnival and a BBQ following the run.
