Changing Lives - The Rabbi Ronnie Greenwald Scholarship Foundation

Hey there!

Two years ago I joined Hike2Help, and I’m grateful to be a part of it again! This summer, I will be hiking and caving with Hike2Help. When I first joined this mission two years ago, it reconnected me with what I had gained through my summers in camp.

Here’s what I wrote after the experience:

--

So thankful to have participated in Hike2Help yesterday, an opportunity to enjoy a day of camp again! It was awesome and uplifting, a taste of my experiences in Camp Sternberg. It reminded me how much Sternberg isn't a camp where kids come just to have a fun summer.

It's a place that was built to empower young souls to look beyond themselves, to go out of their comfort zone and try new and scary things, to look out for others and build them up, to forge lasting, loving, personal relationships with G-d and with people. This was strongly rooted in the vision of Rabbi Greenwald z"l and that atmosphere is tangible til today - I know because I just touched it and breathed it in again yesterday. Part of his mission was to help kids in especially difficult home situations (siblings with a mom in drug rehab, or a girl whose sole parent is in jail and is being raised by grandparents, etc) be able to benefit from this awesome atmosphere as well. Rabbi Greenwald devoted a lot of energy to raising scholarships and enveloping these kids in the love of camp, when their lives the rest of the year were in turmoil. The impact it can have on a kid's life is enormous!! For any kid! How much more so a kid who's struggling with so much at a young age. Sadly, Rabbi Greenwald is no longer with us, and Hike2Help continues his legacy by raising scholarship funds for these kids, who would not be able to go to camp otherwise.

A more recent example of someone benefitting from this scholarship program is one kid whose mother got COVID, was in the ICU, and is now waiting for an organ transplant. Instead of staying at home while her mother is in the hospital, imagine the reprieve of being in a supportive camp environment during this challenge.

Everyone has been through tough times recently, and I completely understand if this isn’t your priority. Just want to offer the opportunity to support a good cause.

If you'd like to help us change a kid's life, you can donate here!

Thank you!
