This summer will be my 15th year working as a nurse in Sternberg, and will be my 24th summer, including my 9 as a camper.

Attending camp as a child and then as an administrative staff member I personally knew Rabbi Greenwald zt"l very well. He knew that every child needs an opportunity to attend camp. Some of these potential campers had emotional problems, physical limitations, messy home life, struggles with religion. But if they wanted to be a Sternberg girl, he made sure they could come to camp.

It is because of this after his Petira we started a scholarship fund to be able to give girls an opportunity who otherwise would not be able to come to camp, to become a Sternberg girl.

As an administrative staff member I have had the ability to see campers who would not have been able to attend other camps come to Sternberg. I am proud to watch these girls grow and blossom into Sternberg girls. Please help give another girl the potential to attend our wonderful camp.

This summer, I will be participating in an outdoor adventure-hiking and caving for the worthy cause of sending a girl to overnight camp. The hiking and caving won't be easy, but neither is life for many children who are struggling with academic or social difficulties, a parent who is ill, divorced, financial difficulty...

The girls who are awarded hike2help scholarships are dealing with daily tribulations that no one should have to go through. Some of them deal with the realities of disease in a family member on a daily basis. Some live in a one parent home that is under a lot of stress due to financial and other issues. Some are coping with the fallout of addiction of family members and the attendant dysfunction that it brings. These children need the break that summer camp provides, and the chance to laugh, run and play like "normal" children. They need a reprieve from a challenging home situation, to restore their spirits and renew their strength to persevere!
