Guiding Lights
Marital Enrichment and Divorce Intervention
Introduction
Guiding Lights is a marital revival and divorce intervention program that has been developed in response to an alarming increase in the request for divorces and separations, particularly among newlyweds. Rabbi Dovid Grossman, Rosh Bais Din at the Bais Havaad in Lakewood has reported an average of 2-4 requests for Gittin on a weekly basis. This tragic phenomenon is repeatedly unfolding as parents, children, friends, relatives are helpless to reverse the process.
**** The Guiding Lights program has been developed to achieve this goal. Guiding Lights, consisting of highly effective and proven Torah based relationship enhancing skills and concepts, have demonstrated their potential to empower couples, both young and older, to achieve a deep and sustained sense of sholom bayis and interpersonal fulfillment. Guiding Lights is effective not only for couples considering divorce, but also any couple that wishes to enhance and enrich their marriage. The program is presently being taught to 19 dedicated and highly experienced community members, including chosson and kallah teachers, educators, and rabbis.
The weekly training workshops and classes will extend for approximately a year, with ongoing supervision and will enable each of the participants to serve as mentors to teach and offer the Guiding Lights experience. The budget for the development of the program, presentations, marketing and publishing materials is $100,000 of which $50,000 has already been pledged as a matching fund grant by the Beth Jacob Jewish Educational Center.
The program has been developed and taught by Shaya Ostrov, L.C.S.W. and has the haskama of Rabbi Shlomo Faivel Shustal, shlita.
